PLEIN AIR ARTISTS
Mission Fine Art Gallery and the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) painters will be at their easels working during the event to capture moments and memories on their canvases. Artists from both groups will select places in the park to paint on site, or “en plein air”, a term roughly translated from the French art world meaning to paint outdoors.
Artists will be at the Riding Park from Wednesday, May 10 to Sunday, May 14th in the Cabanas overlooking the Oaks International Grand Prix Field. Guests are encouraged to interact with the artists and to learn the importance of the plein air movement in our state’s history. Paintings created each day of the event will be on display and for sale at their Hospitality Cabana.
Visitors can view additional artwork either at Mission Fine Art Gallery in San Juan Capistrano or at the Laguna Plein Air Painters gallery located on the north end of Gallery Row in Laguna Beach.

LPAPA
Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA), founded in 1996, is considered the steward of Laguna’s plein air painting legacy. Early plein air artists that helped establish the town as an Artists Colony, founded the original Laguna Beach Art Association and opened the first art gallery in 1918, and started a permanent collection that later established the town’s museum. The LPAPA Art Gallery is located at 414 North Coast Highway in Laguna Beach. (lpapa.org/) LPAPA’s mission, as a nonprofit art organization, is to preserve the history of California’s 19th century plein air movement, to support the outdoor painting tradition as it exists today, and to foster a network among plein air painters worldwide.
