PLEIN AIR ARTISTS

Mission Fine Art Gallery and the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) artists were at the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ USA to capture moments and memories on their canvases. Artists from both groups selected places in the park to paint on site, or “en plein air”, a term roughly translated from the French art world meaning to paint outdoors. Guests were encouraged to interact with the artists to learn the importance of the plein air movement in our state’s history.
The online art show featuring works created by the invited artists and “Inspired by the Nations Cup” is now available for viewing. These pieces were created en plein air on site or in the artists’ studios based on the plein air studies, sketches, and content gathered during the event.

LPAPA

Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA), founded in 1996, is considered the steward of Laguna’s plein air painting legacy. Early plein air artists that helped establish the town as an Artists Colony, founded the original Laguna Beach Art Association and opened the first art gallery in 1918, and started a permanent collection that later established the town’s museum. The LPAPA Art Gallery is located at 414 North Coast Highway in Laguna Beach. (lpapa.org/) LPAPA’s mission, as a nonprofit art organization, is to preserve the history of California’s 19th century plein air movement, to support the outdoor painting tradition as it exists today, and to foster a network among plein air painters worldwide.
